D'Ernys Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into D'Ernys Restaurant, tucked away in the inviting coastal village of Grand Baie, feels like finding a quiet corner of Mauritius where time slows down just enough to savor simple, heartfelt moments. The air carries a gentle saltiness mixed with the promise of home-cooked meals, setting a laid-back, unpretentious pace that invites lingering conversations and calm reflection.
This is a place where the warmth extends beyond the sunlit verandah to the genuine smiles of those who welcome you—family-run and familiar, yet quietly proud of the flavors they bring to the table. The atmosphere encourages a relaxed dining rhythm, where locals and travelers alike gather over plates that tell stories of Creole tradition and fresh, island ingredients.
At D'Ernys, the menu doesn’t shout for attention but rather whispers a steady invitation to taste the sea and land in all their comforting richness. Whether it’s the playful sizzle of prawns meeting garlic butter or the subtle depth in a fragrant shrimp curry, each dish carries the essence of Mauritius without fuss. Drinks like a well-poured rum or a familiar local beer sit side by side with these meals, enhancing the sense of place rather than just quenching thirst.
You’ll find yourself drawn into the understated joy of uncomplicated food made with care, where sauces and spices gently underline the freshness rather than overwhelm it. The moment is often shared quietly across the table, sometimes elevated by a casual chat with the owner who brings a personal touch to the experience, making you feel less like a visitor and more like a guest in a shared kitchen.
In the end, D'Ernys isn’t about grand gestures but the small, steady pleasures—the kind that come from a family’s love for their craft and their community. It’s the type of place that might inspire you to order that garlic sauce twice or dream of returning just to feel the comfort of this humble yet welcoming spot once more.

I am very glad that I found this restaurant. The food is delicious, and we really enjoyed it. We have been looking for a simple yet delicious meal for a long time.

A humble but lovely family run restaurant with fabulous food. This has been our regular haunt this week in Pereybère. My husband has fallen in love with the garlic sauce, he's tried in on most protiens on the menu!

We had some excellent food here. The owner was very friendly and took time to chat and make us feel welcome. (She even speaks very good German!) We ordered tuna steak, chicken skewers and the lobster - all delicious. I wish we were in Pereybere longer so we could go back!

Feb24- We spent (equivalent) £37. Creole traditional cooking it seemed and great to see locals eating here. Non fussy, straightforward and prepared to order. Mainly fish/meat. Didn't see a lot vegetarian. We had one set menu and one sizzling main. 2 drinks. Food is all sweet, sugar is local, and the banana flambé delicious had rum, another local product, plentiful. Sauces uncious and well cooked food. Seemingly traditional. Not as inexpensive as one would think for 2 mains, but set menu is good value, and they can't make changes or add things which was disappointing. Hostess straight and friendly, the waitress was lovely. Would Recommend

We ate here in December and had a good time. Food is a bit on the pricey side but it’s very tasty. My husband and I ordered the Seafood Gratin to share as starter (comes in a big, real shell) and we had the Sizzling Shrimp and Shrimps in tomato sauce for mains. The staff is attentive and atmosphere is nice too. They have outdoor or indoor tables to suit all needs and booking in advance isn’t required.

Simple restaurant but really well cooked and tasty food. I asked for my fish curry to be made extra hot as that's how I like it and the flavours did not disappoint
